Commercial Tree Surgery in Middlewich

We often like to collaborate with Tree Surgery businesses outside of Anglesey and Gwynedd. Over the bank holiday weekend we partnered up with old friends Haine Tree Services based in Ely, Cambridgeshire, to undertake a full dismantle of a very large Poplar tree in situated on a busy business park in Middlewich.

The client requested the tree be felled at it was suffering from extensive basal rot; due to its size and proximity to roads and buildings, it was a major hazard. The tree was over 80ft high and 5ft wide, required use of a crane and a skilled team to undertake the task. The tree was located in a tight space and surrounded by tall conifers and a security fence.

The tree, due to its very wide growth habit, overhung several buildings and therefore the only safe way to lift the tree out was in several large sections with the assistance of a mobile crane. In all of our large crane assisted dismantles, we call upon our friends at Bob Francis Crane Hire, a North Wales based firm that we have been undertaking tree felling projects with us for over 20 years.

Bob Francis provided a super compact 40T crane with highly trained operator which gave us the 50% safety margin for lifting out the 5 tonne sections of tree.

This operation had very high potential for damage and risk to both people and property. Projects like this should only be undertaken by highly skilled arborists with extensive experience in crane operations. Correct placement of the chain slings in the crown is crucial to ensure the pieces lift off cleanly without rotating or toppling as this would create a highly dangerous situation for the climber and ground crew.

In this instance all of the sections of tree lifted were lifted off and lowered to the ground safely without damage to surrounding trees or landscaping. The last lift was the trunk, weighing 7 tonnes.

The site was then swept clean, all brash chipped and removed and hardwood logs grappled into a truck for removal to firewood. This entire operation was carried out on a Saturday to ensure no disruption to business activities.
